FLY FISHING SCHOOL
Many visitors come to the Lake District and see people fishing and
think they'd like to have a go. Often people don't realise how easy
it is to try and how relatively inexpensive a days fishing can be.
Anyone can learn to fish, it's not as hard as you may think. You
don't need to have any tackle or expensive equipment to
start at Esthwaite Water.
Can anybody fish at Esthwaite?
Absolutely, anyone can fish at Esthwaite. You don't have to be a
member. Permits are available for a day or part day and from both
boat and bank.

What will it cost?
Starting off is not very expensive. We supply all the kit and tuition days are discounted to £10 per person and juniors are free of charge. Check out the dates for 2013 discounted tuition days.
Is there an age limit?
You can learn to fish at any age.
We teach anyone usually over
10 years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Where can I get my own kit from?
Our on site tackle shop is stocked with a comprehensive range.
A complete outfit for a beginner can be as little as £25 for
a worm/spinning rod or £50 for a fly outfit.
So you see fishing at Esthwaite Water is not difficult. It is a
fantastic pastime out in the fresh air amidst the most beautiful
of surroundings to be found anywhere in England.
Fly Fishing Tuition
This full day package (£100 + £40
per extra person including tackle hire & boat) starts with a
4 hour tuition session which begins with how to choose a rod,
reel, fly line and leaders. Basic fly casting techniques - the overhead
cast and the introduction to the roll cast. The fundamentals of entomology
(study of insects), choice of fly patterns, leader materials & construction,
knots and other essential tackle required. After the bank session
the tutor will take you out on the lake in a boat for 30 minutes
to show you various methods for catching trout, playing & netting
a fish, also the best way to return a fish safely to the water, unharmed
when fishing catch & release.
Also Participants must bring a hat and a pair of sunglasses for protection. This package must be booked in advance.
Discounted Tuition Days
For the last few seasons we have offered free tuition to men, women and children alike. These events have proved to be very successful and will continue into the 2013 season, however due to their popularity a small charge of £10 per person will be administered. A small price to pay for the introduction to a lifetime of enjoyment.
For beginners there is an introduction to the art of flyfishing from rods and equipment used, learning the overhead cast through to setting up leaders and choosing the right fly. Some improvers managed to develop their overhead cast and wanted to move to more advanced techniques such as the very useful roll cast.
There will be 7 organised days running from 10.00am - 2.00pm. Please do not hesitate to contact the fishery for more details. Dates will be: 17th March, 21st April, 11th May, 18th May, 9th June, 30th June and 13th July respectively. All discounted tuition days must be booked in advance. You also need to bring with you a brimmed hat and sunglasses for protection!
Youth Recruitment Programme
Esthwaite Water fishery has an ongoing
policy of introducing young people to fishing, this is vitally important
to anglings future. Junior fishing courses have been & will continue
to be run on a regular basis here at the fishery. (Contact
us for
details).
Once again the fishery will be offering FREE fishing to children under 12
accompanied by
an adult permit holder and will continue to offer concessions to
under 18's.

Anyone who feels they could offer our clients a high level
of instruction for fly fishing please contact us.
Our tuition package has become extremely popular in recent
years, and sometimes we need more tutors on our list. Its
